Senior executive position at Monash University

Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) is driven to find real solutions to some of the most significant challenges facing our world today.  They harness the research, education and engagement strength within MSDI and across Monash to address the interconnected challenges posed by the Sustainable Development Goals.  They bring together interdisciplinary research teams and co-produce research and action projects with industry and government partners to develop policies and solutions to key sustainable development challenges: climate change, water and sanitation, food and land use, social inclusion, sustainable urbanisation, health, safety and wellbeing.

Some of the key responsibilities for the senior executive position are,

  • Strategic leadership of the Institute’s development and implementation of sustainable development research, translation, engagement and education in collaboration with faculties at Monash
  • Build an effective team in MSDI that has a strong sense of common purpose in support of MSDI’s mission
  • Take a lead role in international and national collaborations and networks, and maintain public leadership through writing, speaking and presenting to position Monash and MSDI for global leadership in catalysing sustainable development
  • Provide leadership in engaging with government, business and community sectors to build mutual capacity, to identify high quality sustainable development projects of relevance and to capture external resources for research, translation and education initiatives - Sources may include national and international funding agencies, governments, business and philanthropy

The candidate should be an exceptionally skilled and experienced individual with an international reputation and a distinguished record for influencing the sustainable development agenda, other experience and qualifications include a significant strategic leadership experience including fostering successful institutional culture within a complex knowledge and impact-focused organisation and a doctoral qualification in a field relevant to the Sustainable Development Institute or equivalent accreditation and standing, together with subsequent research experience and is recognised as a leading authority in the area of research and/or scholarship.
