Workshop at the German Future Earth Summit (January 28th 2014)

The German representatives of the international scientific “Global data management and e-infrastructures” steering committee of the Belmont Forum were available for discussing issues related to data availability and exploitation. Main discussion items were the possibility to improve data availability and the need of e-infrastructures for science in the context of Future Earth.

This new initiative of the Belmont Forum was introduced and discussed at a post-conference workshop of the German Future Earth Summit and within the World Café “Future Earth: Markt der Ideen”.

Background: At the end of 2013, the Belmont Forum appointed an international steering committee for the topic “Data management and e-infrastructures” with the objective to prepare recommendations for possible research measures. Key aspects of the advisory boards’ work include standardization of data, improvement of interfaces of process and data infrastructures, harmonization of global data infrastructures, data exchange and –availability, as well as capacity building. About 120 scientists worldwide are currently involved in different working groups on this topic. Recommendations are expected to be published by the beginning of 2015.

Organization of the Workshop:
