Interdisciplinary Workshop - "Climate Change Adaptation Finance: How to Govern and Distribute Scarce Funding?"

Finance for developing countries to adapt to climate change has emerged over the last few years as a major issue in climate negotiations. The recent increase in climate-related disasters all around the globe has raised the awareness that current and future measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will not suffice to avoid harmful impacts from climate change. This rising awareness has put the topic of adaptation to climate change at the top of the agenda of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The question of how to govern and distribute adaptation finance remains, however, an unresolved problem both in political and in academic debates. The objective of the workshop is to bring together experts from diverse national and disciplinary backgrounds to understand current disagreements over adaptation finance and investigate potential ways to move forward in the debates.

Registration is free of charge; please send an email to For organizational concerns, please specify which day you will attend.

The workshop is kindly funded by the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg and CAU’s Graduate Center.
